What is Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the most comprehensive and ancient healing principle on the planet. Ayurveda focuses its attention on absolute and perfect health. СAyurТ means life and СVedaТ means knowledge. Ayurveda is the science of life. This 5000-year-old science of life concentrates on not the diseases but the whole lifestyle itself. The tree life energy, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the emphasis of Ayurveda. A well-balanced state of the three subtle energies ensures a healthy and harmonious life.
According to Ayurveda, all activities in the universe and in man are grouped into three basic functions Ц creation, organization and destruction. According to Ayurveda, the right balance of the three subtle energies, called Vata, Pitta and Kapha, is what maintains health. Ayurveda says the body is made up of tissues (dhatus), waste products (malas), and doshas (loosely translated to Energetic Forces). It is the TridoshasТ job to assist with the creation of all of the various tissues of the body and to remove any unnecessary waste products from the body. It is also the Tridoshas that influence all movements, all transformations, all sensory functions, and many of the other activities in the human body and mind.
The Vata dosha is responsible for all movement in the body and is the most important of the three doshas. Vata provides all eliminations: fetus, semen, feces, urine, sweat, and a few others .It assists with all the various metabolisms in the body (called Agni in Ayurveda) and controls all of the various movement of body (both physical & mental).
The Pitta dosha is associated with fire or heat and is responsible for all metabolism in the body. Pitta provides metabolism , thermogenesis , vision, apetite, comprehension of information into knowledge and reasoning.
Kapha is the heaviest of the three doshas. It provides the structures and the lubrication that the body needs. These qualities help to counterbalance VataТs movement and PittaТs metabolism. A big, heavyset football play or wrestler is a person with a predominance of Kapha. Kapha provides strength, moistness and lubrication, stability, mass and structure, fertility and vitility.
When the Tridoshas are balanced, the individual experiences health on all levels: mental, physical and spiritual. This is much more than the mere absence of disease.
